Vaishno Devi Shrine Board

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board or simply Shrine Board is the key force for managing entire pilgrimage or Yatra by hundreds of thousands of pilgrims for that better governance cum administration was needed. Formation of this Board in August 1986 was under the guidance and most importantly the provisions applicable through the Jammu and Kashmir Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Act, 1988 for the materialization. Key aspect of this Act remained ensuring best facility through proper governance and management of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji Holy Shrine. Equally was it meant to facilitate needed comfort to pilgrims and to maintain the Shrine especially all of its structures.

A private trust named Dharamarth Trust used to control Shrine management before it was taken over by the new management to control the Shrine afresh. Local group exclusively people with unique traditions named Baridars assisted private trust to manage the Shrine system. Such initiative was taken to make a Trust after it was felt that Shrine had poorer facilities so was lack of comforts for pilgrims before that. There was no proper system and although offerings would be usually collected by Baridars rest incomes arrived from different sources like rentals or royalties were previous Trust’s property. Although collections were too much but pilgrims rarely got the benefits earlier hence concrete decision was taken to brings things right in order. It was unfortunate that pilgrims arriving here from different parts of the country had to encounter such issues and problems upon reaching Katra due to mismanagement. Their devotion often faced thoughtlessness and mismanaged system.

Once the Shrine Trust was formed it became mandatory through special provisions applicable by the Act that whole Administration, management and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine governance will be controlled for that funds received would be collected by the Board whose Chairman and team of ten members allocate use

The ex-officio Chairman of the Board is none other than the Governor of the state of Jammu & Kashmir due to holding the constitutional office. Nine members are nominated by him to constitute the Board so that policies can be practiced thereafter. A Chief Executive Officer of the Board discharge duty and gets proper assistance from the Addl. Chief Executive Officer, so are many Area Heads working accordingly.

Since the takeover has been done and Shrine Board is taken over by its Board there has occurred a revolution with its constant efforts to offer best facility to pilgrims arriving here for Darshan in the Holy Cave Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji. There has been tremendous increase in number of pilgrims into this Shrine ever since proper system was introduced. According to an estimation number increased from 13.95 lakhs to 101.15 lakhs in 2011 itself. Of course blessings of the Divine power worked but thorough and tireless support of Shrine Board can’t be ruled out. By now this Board is already denoted with one of the best recognized boards whose services are ultimate. Main aim  of Shrine Board is to turn pilgrimage to this Holy Shrine comfortable, smooth and notable  too. Some more steps are underway which would definitely improve condition and its impact will be facilitating more benefits to pilgrims by excellent services.
